Ginger Grant: Rebuilding Education Through Instructional Coaching

Bio:
Ginger Grant is a Distinguished Educator for the Louisiana State Department of Education who serves as an external change agent in assisting low-performing schools to excel. As a Distinguished Educator (D. E.), Ginger serves as both an Instructional and Leadership Coach. She is currently assigned to support schools in the Recovery School District (RSD) in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Prior to her service as a “D.E.,” Ginger was a Third and Fourth Grade Teacher in New Orleans. She has also served as a math and English language arts Content, or Instructional, Coach in Shreveport, Louisiana. It was in Shreveport that her spark and passion for Instructional Coaching developed.

After a decade of teaching experiences, Ginger is sharing her passion for Instructional Coaching with others. As a trainer in Jim Knight and the University of Kansas’s Center for Research on Learning Instructional Coaching Model, Ginger is training her Distinguished Educator colleagues and will train the 60 newly-hired Instructional Coaches in the RSD.

Ginger is a life-long learner and educational reformer. She is currently a Doctoral Student at the University of Phoenix School of Advanced Studies. She will complete her research studies in Educational Leadership in the year 2010. Ginger has also studied and participated in educational research projects at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the Peabody College at Vanderbilt University.

Ginger was recently featured in the September 2007 edition of the National Staff Development Council’s online journal, T3, or Teachers Teaching Teachers. Upon completion of her doctoral studies, Ginger plans to publish children’s books and continue her educational reform efforts in high need areas of the country.
