Introducing the new SIM® logo
In 2006 KU-CRL finalized the design of an official SIM® logo.
Most corporations and organizations today use graphic images to connect with their audience and to develop a consistent and cohesive style to build recognition and increase awareness. Similarly, it is important for the Strategic Instruction Model (SIM) to build and maintain a strong visual foundation.
Consistent use of the graphic identity – whether in a letterhead, on the web, or on the cover of a publication – will build recognition of the SIM program and put a face on the years of exceptional work that have gone into the development of this model.

Trademark Information (®)
KU-CRL has taken steps to legally protect the Strategic Instruction Model as a registered trademark. It is important for all of us to use the ® symbol when we use this term and the logo in our materials. When you use this term, include the ® symbol as shown below:
Strategic Instruction Model ®
It is especially important to use this in advertisements and materials promoting workshops and the first time the term is used in articles or other text. It is not necessary to use the symbol every time the words are used in printed material, but certainly use the symbol on first reference in text and on prominent uses of the term (such as headings). If you question whether use of the symbol is necessary, use it. Note that in addition to using the trademark symbol, the first letter of each word should be capitalized.
How do I insert ® in my documents?
- On Mac computers, use the key combination Option-R to insert ®.
- On PCs, use the key combination Alt + 0153 (hold down the Alt key while you type the numbers) or Ctrl+Alt+R to insert ®.
- For web use, you can enter the HTML entity ® to insert ®

SIM Graphics Standards Manual: This is an important document that gives all of the details on the new SIM Visual Identity, including how to use the logos, which are the standard fonts, color recommendations, and other important information that will help those interested in implementing the SIM visual identity in their work.
SIM Graphics: Three different graphic elements comprise the SIM Visual Identity: an official signature (the primary “logo” for SIM) and two alternate SIM marks. The SIM Graphics Standards manual clearly explores the different uses of these elements. If in doubt, please use the official signature as the default for all of your materials.
Official SIM graphics may be downloaded in EPS (Encapsulated PostScript), TIFF (Tagged Image File Format), and JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) file formats. Images used in professionally printed materials must be created with an understanding of color separations and other technical requirements differing from those designed for use on the web.
Which Format Should I Use?
EPS – EPS is the right choice for use with advanced graphics software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Freehand) or desktop publishing programs (e.g., QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign). The EPS format is resolution independent (not based on pixels). Vector-based EPS graphics are the best option for high-quality printing and publishing.
TIFF – TIFF is the most universal and most widely supported format across all platforms (Mac, Windows, Unix, etc.) The TIFF files provided are not compressed and have white backgrounds. They are appropriate for PowerPoint or Microsoft Word use.
JPEG – JPEGs are compressed images well suited for use on the web because of their small file size. JPEG files are appropriate for web icons, web graphics, and on-screen PowerPoint presentations, but they lack the resolution
to be used for high-quality printing.
